it is the teacher's responsibility to teach, but it is the student's responsibility to learn. 

sometimes, when i'm ranting to a student about taking ownership of his or her education, i say things that i wasn't expecting to say. then i sit back and introspectively ponder my own life in relation to what i just said, realizing that the world tries to teach me something everyday and that some days, i'm just not listening. some days i just don't learn. i choose not to learn. you can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. no one knows what you  need to do better than you. are you listening to me?
